Marciak,
A duvet cover is a cover to put over an existing comforter or quilt. Nice because you can remove the comforter and just wash the duvet cover, then just put your comforter back in!! HTH, Julie

Marcia, I didn't know what a duvet or duvet cover was for a long time until a friend in Canada finally clued me in. Now I hear the term everywhere I go. It's like someone came up with this thing while I wasn't looking and it became popular even though I didn't know it existed

Marcia, there is a thing called black out or something similar, that you can put behind your drapes. It will block out the sunlight. So you could make the drapes from any material. You can also use it as the lining for the drapes, which ever you prefer. I'm sure Martha could help you further with this one, and she probably sells it too. If you go to sewingweb's front page and click on fabric.com they have some in the upholstery section.

Marcia - If you want total darkness, then you would want to check into the blackout liner. We use 3 pass, which is white front, blackout insulating fabric, then a suede like white on the back. A 2 pass has a grey finish on the back. You can use any drapery fabric with this or use just the liner by itself. We make seperate liners on traverse rod, then make sheers to go on front rod. When you need the darkness, close them both, if darkness is not needed, you can still close the sheers for some privacy. If you want a sample, let me know!

Hi! New to the board! | ||
|
Hello everyone, I'm happy to find this message board! I have been sewing for years, mainly clothes, but now that my daughter has just moved into a newly-built beautiful home, I'm trying my hand at draperies and duvet covers. I do have a question about applying bullion fringe onto draperies. Do you just sew it into place with the braid part (the part you sew) on the outer side? Thanks for any help!

SEWING BULLION | ||

Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us!!
If the edge of the bullion has a nice finished edge, you can stitch it on the top of the draperies. Some bullion does not have a top edge that looks finished and if that is the case, just sandwich it before the fabric and lining. Either way you do it, when you are stitching it in place, make sure not pull it and make it too tight. It will make your fabric pucker if that happens. Your daughter must be so happy to have beautiful treatments in you new beautiful home. Make sure you send pictures to Donna for the photo gallery. Martha www.mar-csinteriors.com |

Thanks Martha! | ||

I appreciate the tip about the fabric puckering...if it's possible, you better believe it will happen to me. You are saving me from ripping out a bunch of the trim! Thanks so much! Also, what is this about sending pictures to Donna? I don't know anything about that, please explain! Thanks in advance ~

If you send me a picture and permission to do so, I'll put pictures in our gallery so we can see what you're up to. I'll probably be doing some pictures this weekend, so send them to me at donna@sewingweb.com and I'll see what I can do.
